The “Price Wizard” is leaving: 10 December 2021 is the final day of work for Peter Jetzer, the long-time head of polymer prices at PIE. The Swiss native is officially set to retire at the end of December. For almost 20 years, Jetzer has been responsible for price reporting at PIE. He observed and analysed the market, conducted long, confidential phone calls with industry players, and summarised his findings in price reports.

Thanks to the quality of his research, PIE’s price reports are characterised by reliability and precision, and they accurately reflect the latest developments. Because of Jetzer, PIE reporting on polymer prices has established itself as a universally recognised industry standard, as has our development of key price indices for the plastics industry and the reporting on weekly spot prices. The quality of the information is also shown by the fact that numerous companies now use PIE polymer pricing as a benchmark for their supply and purchasing contracts.

Martin Bäcker, Jetzer’s successor, is a proven procurement expert. The 55-year-old economist worked for many years in strategic purchasing, which included time at the chemicals division of the former Degussa and with BMW and Lufthansa Cargo.

Bäcker has been part of the PIE price team since early 2021, and has already made a name for himself as a specialist for the logistics industry. Bäcker said he sees a particular focus for the future in the expansion of PIE price reporting on recyclates.
