German compounder expands North America business / US subsidiary founded
— By PIE staff —

Looking to establish its business in the US, German recycling and compounding specialist MKV (Beselich-Obertiefenbach; www.mkv-kunststoff.com) has announced plans to establish a subsidiary in the North American country on 1 January 2026.

The subsidiary, to be named MKV Polymer, will be located near existing and potential customers in Akron, Ohio, and initially operate as a sales office for the US and Canada, according to MKV managing director Kai Zies. The MD did not share information about how much staff it plans to employ at the US site.

In the first phase, the company plans to supply the North American market with ZIA-brand polyamides and POM produced locally by partner companies. MKV said this would allow it to avoid import duties. A dedicated production facility is planned for the medium term.

Due to the CETA free trade agreement between Europe and Canada, delivery from Germany to Canada is possible with a local warehouse.

The move across the Atlantic had “been planned for some time,” Zies noted. MKV aims to focus on customers in the automotive, electrical and electronics, agriculture, and leisure sectors. He put the company’s existing revenue in the seven-figure USD range.

Founded in 1960, the family-owned company specialises in mechanical plastics recycling and the compounding of virgin polymers in Germany. Its main sales markets are the automotive and furniture industries as well as E&E.
