Recent Polymer Price Reports
Standard Recyclate January 2020
Downtrend in prices continues / Only rPP and rPS remain stable / Pressure from virgin materials / Demand to pick up in February / Widely stabilising prices expected
Russia December 2019
Polyolefin notations at lowest levels for the year / Demand very weak in part / PE injection moulding grades and standard PS materials hold their ground / Virtually no recovery in January
North America December 2019
Price decline continues / PP down again / Iran conflict and trade war with China to determine developments in the new year / Feedstock costs vary
Standard Thermoplastics Trend January 2020
Polyolefins trend just slightly up / Styrenics make up the ground lost in December / Demand picks up only slowly / Selective price increases over the rest of the month
China Engineering Thermoplastics December 2019
Most grades see rollovers or decreases / ABS is the exception / Generally weak demand / Several plants shut down or lower operation rates
China Standard Thermoplastics December 2019
LDPE and PP notations fall / Most polymers witness low demand / Chinese New Year festival in latter January to keep demand weak
Composites/GRP December 2019
Market remains stable as the year turns / SM price rise could lead to firming in February / Glass fibre unchanged
Engineering Thermoplastics December 2019
Year ends quietly / Production plants running with reduced output / January starts late because of weak automotive segment / Significant reductions announced for polyamide 6.6
Polyethylene December 2019
Small C2 increase ignored / Prices roll over or fall slightly / Producers suffer margin reductions / Demand affected by short working month / Little change expected in January
Polypropylene December 2019
All products roll over / Little change seen for January / Demand mostly below average
Styrenics December 2019
Further decreases with PS, EPS and ABS / All prices reach annual lows / Oversupply and weak demand continue / Possible trend reversal in January
PET December 2019
Prices bottom out / More expensive imports stabilise the lowest prices / Monthly contracts slip too / Recycled PET still costs more than virgin material / Calm start of the year
Base Petrochemicals, Aromatics and Feedstocks
December 2019/January 2020
PVC December 2019
Few impulses in December / Notations stuck in a rollover / Modest demand at year's end January with slight markups
Engineering Recyclate December 2019
Prices down for nearly all regrind types / Significantly weaker demand at year-end / Nevertheless surprisingly strong order-book situation for January and February
Russia November 2019
Slumps for many grades / Mostly very low demand / PET, PP and PS show more resilience in some areas / Further declines expected in December

New categories for petrochemicals

The important role petrochemical feedstocks and other starting materials play in price developments for polymers is becoming increasingly evident. To reflect this, PIE is now tracking and publishing both contract and monthly average spot prices for the most important petrochemicals. In addition, we will analyse the volatility of spot prices as well as the level of supply and demand.

Separate tables for Feedstocks (ethylene, propylene, styrene, paraxylene) and Base Chemicals / Aromatics (oil, naphtha, benzene) will bring market developments into the spotlight.
