Recent Polymer Price Reports
Polyurethane feedstocks November 2022
End of strong price hikes for TDI / Producers grant heavy discounts partially on low demand / Generally more reductions in weeks ahead
Engineering recyclate November 2022
Base material very scarce / Increased demand from automotive industry turns out to be a flash in the pan / "Just close your eyes and hope for the best"
Standard recyclate November 2022
Prices continue to fall / Recyclers respond to slack demand with production cutbacks / No recovery in sight for December
China engineering thermoplastics October 2022
Prices for some engineering thermoplastics rebound / Textile sector low / Most types projected to see a drop in November
Standard thermoplastics trend November 2022
Month starts with mixed price picture / Late monomer price fixes delay polyolefin talks / Some increases may fizzle
China standard thermoplastics October 2022
Prices remain mixed though bearish sentiment prevails amid weak demand / November quotations seen lower / Only HDPE, PP expected to hold ground
North America October 2022
Weak demand, high stock levels put prices under pressure / Only PE moves sideways / Rising interest rates depress consumer behaviour / Further price reductions expected in November
Composites/GRP October 2022
Significant rebates for resins / Soft demand drives downtrend / Most GF types roll over
Ethylene November 2022
Contract moves higher
Engineering thermoplastics October 2022
Prices trend further down / Weak demand and increasing pressure from Asian imports / Greater price stability likely in November due to production cutbacks
Propylene November 2022
Reference contract turns slightly upwards
Styrene November 2022
Stable despite declining spot quotations
Polyethylene October 2022
Planned price hikes end in slight declines / Cheap imports unable to cover production cutbacks / Rise in C2 fails to transfer
Polypropylene October 2022
Widespread production cuts and price rebates in line with C3 movement / Demand still limping along / Can imports prevent a material shortage in November?
Styrenics October 2022
Prices continue downward trend / Oversupply amidst weak demand / Inflation and recession worries put a damper on buying mood / Further discounts foreseeable for November
Base petrochemicals, aromatics and feedstocks October/November 2022
Holidays cause delay in several contracts
PVC October 2022
Downward trend of previous months continuing / Price level still high / Declining demand from end markets / Uncertainty among converters
PET October 2022
Demand at an all-time low / Producers' warehouses bursting despite clear price concessions / Even the lowest-price imports have no takers / Misery set to continue
Paraxylene October 2022
PET draws little material
Benzene November 2022
Styrene route stabilises demand
Polyurethane feedstocks October 2022
TDI soars to astronomical heights / Improvement in demand stabilises / Production cutbacks in intermediate products with barely any consequences so far / Additional price hikes
Engineering recyclate October 2022
Downward trend loses energy / General shift towards price stability / Recycling companies, converters bear difficult cost situation

New categories for petrochemicals

The important role petrochemical feedstocks and other starting materials play in price developments for polymers is becoming increasingly evident. To reflect this, PIE is now tracking and publishing both contract and monthly average spot prices for the most important petrochemicals. In addition, we will analyse the volatility of spot prices as well as the level of supply and demand.

Separate tables for Feedstocks (ethylene, propylene, styrene, paraxylene) and Base Chemicals / Aromatics (oil, naphtha, benzene) will bring market developments into the spotlight.
