Recent Polymer Price Reports
Polyurethane feedstocks January 2022
Widespread rollovers / Weak demand takes the wind out of the sails of any surcharge wishes / Processors build up stocks / Factoring in energy costs may be an issue in February
Engineering recyclate January 2022
Marked differences in addition of higher energy costs / Recyclers take advantage of all increases in demand / Further discussions expected
Standard recyclate January 2022
Premiums only for rPET / Discounts for some rPE grades, rollovers otherwise / More production scrap due to lower exports / New attempts to price in energy, logistics costs
Standard thermoplastics trend January 2022
Only styrenics see significant premiums / Polyolefins mostly roll over / Low demand slows energy cost pass-through
China engineering thermoplastics December 2021
Prices broadly lower amid weak demand and higher domestic operation rates / Only POM stable / January to be weaker
North America December 2021
Rollovers reign / Further reductions for polyolefins / Shortages of compounds expected to lead to January hikes for engineering thermoplastics
Russia December 2021
Prices of standard thermoplastics decline / Only PVC, PET dearer / Trends set to continue over next few weeks
China Standard Thermoplastics December 2021
Prices broadly lower amid healthy supply, slack demand / January seen weak ahead of Chinese New Year
Composites/GRP December 2021
Resins and glass fibre even higher / Fresh hikes expected in January / Securing supply the priority despite high price level
Engineering thermoplastics December 2021
Rollover for most types / Demand weak at end of year / With feedstock prices still rising, increases in January are virtually certain
Polyethylene December 2021
Mostly small price increases at year-end / Rollover with LDPE, LLDPE injection moulding and HDPE pipe grades / Producers to push for price increases in January
Polypropylene December 2021
Rollover for injection moulding grades and compounds / Slight gains for film / Producers to seek energy surcharges in January
Styrenics December 2021
Only minor changes before the turn of the year / Weak demand meets limited availability / Strong price increases through 2021
PET December 2021
Notations increase again / A very quiet end of year keeps high demands in check / Signs of a turnaround on world markets / Increased imports in sight again
PVC December 2021
Base material takes a break / Compound notations continue upward trend / Restrictions still in place / Demand remains high / Further hikes expected

New categories for petrochemicals

The important role petrochemical feedstocks and other starting materials play in price developments for polymers is becoming increasingly evident. To reflect this, PIE is now tracking and publishing both contract and monthly average spot prices for the most important petrochemicals. In addition, we will analyse the volatility of spot prices as well as the level of supply and demand.

Separate tables for Feedstocks (ethylene, propylene, styrene, paraxylene) and Base Chemicals / Aromatics (oil, naphtha, benzene) will bring market developments into the spotlight.
