Recent Polymer Price Reports
Engineering recyclate September 2020
Supply and demand equally low / Low-priced new material continues to exert pressure / Minor impetus from reduction in value-added tax
Standard recyclate September 2020
Most prices move sideways / Only occasional slight discounts / Demand often below expectations / Prices remain largely stable in the coming weeks
North America August 2020
Season's first hurricane triggers pronounced hikes for polyolefins and PVC / Engineering plastics predominantly firmer / Restart of polymer production will determine September prices
Standard thermoplastics trend September 2020
No change with polyolefin prices / Demand below expectations / PVC producers benefit from tight availability / Weak rollover with PS and EPS
China standard thermoplastics August 2020
Most prices rise amid low supply and reviving demand / Several PVC plants set to come onstream / Mixed outlook for September
Russia August 2020
Polyethylene availability very low / Simultaneous outages and maintenance on plants at four producers / Notations set to continue upward trend in September
China engineering thermoplastics August 2020
Prices broadly higher amid recovering demand and lower inventory levels / Scarce import volumes / September demand seen at normal levels
Composites/GPR August 2020
July firming leaves few traces / Little momentum overall / Glass fibre products also mostly stable
Engineering thermoplastics August 2020
Polycarbonate prices freeze / Glass fibre-reinforced polyamides down / Longer-term agreements stabilise PBT business / PMMA price will follow increase in cost of MMA
Polyethylene August 2020
Producers push through maximum C2 cost hike / Converters reject margin increase / Demand somewhat too low for time of year / At best minor upward trend in September
Polypropylene August 2020
Hikes remain below C3 rise / Outages have little impact due to soft demand / Notations likely stable in September
Styrenics August 2020
Rollovers predominate for PS and EPS / Slight premiums on ABS / Price corrections in both directions / Demand generally weak / Hardly any change seen for September
PVC August 2020
Price rise continues / Ethylene price hikes and poor availability drive costs / Brisk demand despite holiday period / Climbs expected again in September
Base petrochemicals, aromatics and feedstocks
August/September 2020
PET August 2020
Weak rollovers dominate picture / Market remains rather sluggish despite heatwave / Volume pressure grows in Asia / Import offers more aggressive / Outlook still depressed
Polyurethane feedstocks August 2020
Triple-digit hikes on strongly higher demand / Isocyanate output slowly normalises / More hikes in September

New categories for petrochemicals

The important role petrochemical feedstocks and other starting materials play in price developments for polymers is becoming increasingly evident. To reflect this, PIE is now tracking and publishing both contract and monthly average spot prices for the most important petrochemicals. In addition, we will analyse the volatility of spot prices as well as the level of supply and demand.

Separate tables for Feedstocks (ethylene, propylene, styrene, paraxylene) and Base Chemicals / Aromatics (oil, naphtha, benzene) will bring market developments into the spotlight.
