Recent Polymer Price Reports
Russia June 2020
Notations rise moderately for PE, PP and PVC / PET grades at record low due to continued restrictions / Price increases for PVC expected in July
Composites/GRP June 2020
Resins lose some ground and may bottom out in July / Market quieter / Most glass fibre products unchanged
Engineering thermoplastics June 2020
Prices fall to near-record lows / Producers fight plummeting prices with little success / Demand livelier but still weak / Automotive gives a glimmer of hope
Polyethylene June 2020
Ethylene increase rarely factored in full into polymers / Demand below expectations / Production cutbacks still the norm / Upward trend in July
Polypropylene June 2020
Prices curve upwards again / Propylene rise not all passed on to copo and compounds buyers / Soft automotive demand / More hikes in July
Styrenics June 2020
Prices pick up again / Often no full cost transfer / Further hikes expected in July
PET June 2020
Notations firming / Oil chains have a stabilising effect / Market still subdued / Buyers focusing on European materials / Ongoing coronavirus pandemic dampens expectations
Base petrochemicals, aromatics and feedstocks
June/July 2020
PVC June 2020
Notations moving upward again / End of the price decline to date / All costs generally passed on / Demand picking up / Further increases foreseeable for July
Polyurethane feedstocks June 2020
Downswing continues / Consumer markets weak / OEM start-ups have no impact / Trend reversal will depend on demand
Engineering recyclate June 2020
Prices recover after last month's crash / Occasional reductions for automotive grades / Regrinders look to reduce high purchasing costs
Standard recyclate June 2020
Recycled LDPE and rPP prices roll over / Further decreases with rHDPE and rPET / Demand remains weak / No upswing expected in the near future
China engineering thermoplastics May 2020
Many polymer grades head upwards / Demand in certain areas recovering / Further normalisation projected for June
North America May 2020
Polyolefin price slide comes to a halt / PVC could bottom out / Output reductions take effect / Demand subdued despite easing of lockdown / Turnaround in June unlikely
Standard thermoplastics trend June 2020
Prices climbing up on a broad front / Increases mostly smaller than the monomer rise / Converters quiet after pre-buying in May / Demand is subdued

New categories for petrochemicals

The important role petrochemical feedstocks and other starting materials play in price developments for polymers is becoming increasingly evident. To reflect this, PIE is now tracking and publishing both contract and monthly average spot prices for the most important petrochemicals. In addition, we will analyse the volatility of spot prices as well as the level of supply and demand.

Separate tables for Feedstocks (ethylene, propylene, styrene, paraxylene) and Base Chemicals / Aromatics (oil, naphtha, benzene) will bring market developments into the spotlight.
