Recent Polymer Price Reports
Polyurethane Feedstocks May 2019
Isocyanate price movements uneven / Demand disappointing / Headwinds for MDI hikes / Little change likely in June
Engineering Recyclate May 2019
Secondary market quiet / Recycled PP compounds an exception / Demand improves slowly / Little change likely in June
Standard Recyclate May 2019
Increasing prices predominate / Only opaque grades and rPET remain in rollover / Demand driven by virgin materials and seasonal effects / Further hikes to also predominate in June
Standard Thermoplastics Trend May 2019
Producers' hopes of significant margin gains are not fulfilled / Demand remains too subdued for large increases
North America April 2019
Polyolefins tend sideways to firmer / PVC affected by weak demand / PS moves in line with rising costs / Most engineering plastics roll over / Tension eases with PA 6.6
Russia April 2019
Continuing subdued demand results in largely stagnating notations / No substantial change in sight
China Engineering Thermoplastics April 2019
Most notations decrease / PC, PA 6.6 and PMMA pointing downwards in May
China Standard Thermoplastics April 2019
PVC shoots upward / Deadly explosion in Inner Mongolia and safety inspections at plants / Higher prices of imported PP and HDPE
Composites/GRP April 2019
Resins prices start to rise / Automotive demand still weak / Glass fibre notations unchanged
Engineering Thermoplastics April 2019
Producers regulate supply to keep notations mostly stable / Demand remains slow / Price cuts for polyamides probable in May
Polypropylene April 2019
Producers' gains modest / Demand still soft after Easter / Auto weakness brakes compounds / Cost rise will pull prices up in May
Polyethylene April 2019
Producers manage to halt margin decline / Reports of first margin increases too / Signs point upward for May due to rising costs, dwindling supply and livelier demand
Styrenics April 2019
Prices continue uptrend / Margins slightly below cost change / Subdued demand for PS and ABS / Slight increases likely in May
Base Petrochemicals, Aromatics and Feedstocks
April / May 2019
PET April 2019
Weak rollovers predominate / Demand remains disappointing while costs stagnate / Seasonal firming expected in May
PVC April 2019
Pro-rata ethylene reference passed on in most cases / Sufficient quantities available despite isolated production bottlenecks / Cost development points to a rise in May

New categories for petrochemicals

The important role petrochemical feedstocks and other starting materials play in price developments for polymers is becoming increasingly evident. To reflect this, PIE is now tracking and publishing both contract and monthly average spot prices for the most important petrochemicals. In addition, we will analyse the volatility of spot prices as well as the level of supply and demand.

Separate tables for Feedstocks (ethylene, propylene, styrene, paraxylene) and Base Chemicals / Aromatics (oil, naphtha, benzene) will bring market developments into the spotlight.
