Recent Polymer Price Reports
PVC June 2022
Slight price drop for base material / Clearer reductions for S-PVC (U), pastes / Noticeable demand weakness / More declines expected in July
PET June 2022
Seasonal demand clearly picking up / Higher feedstock costs raise prices / Attractive imports boost supply / Further increases expected in July
Polyurethane feedstocks June 2022
Declining demand puts significant pressure on prices / Decrease however not yet sufficient to revive order activity / Further markdowns foreseeable
Engineering recyclate June 2022
Upward trend continues with rPA 6, rPOM / Rollover for rABS, rPC / Forward buying by automotive sector / Demand otherwise weak / Upward momentum expected to ease
Standard recyclate June 2022
The recycling market knows no fear of recession – but for how long? / Low imports, high demand fuel price increases / Seasonal relaxation expected for July
Standard thermoplastics trend June 2022
Declining demand puts pressure on polyolefin prices / Styrenics and PVC mostly roll over / Fears of a recession abound
China engineering thermoplastics May 2022
Higher feedstock costs due to expensive crude oil / Generally low demand leads to broad decreases / Lockdowns eased / Mixed picture for June
China standard thermoplastics May 2022
Decrease in prices of most grades / Generally low demand / Lockdown nightmare over to an extent / Outlook mixed
North America May 2022
PE, PVC move sideways as PP nosedives / Precarious time for styrene drives up PS, PA 6 / Consumer demand slumps on high inflation / June expected mostly weaker
Composites/GRP May 2022
Resin prices move higher / With feedstocks rising, no plateau is in sight / Imports help to ease glass fibre tightness
Engineering thermoplastics May 2022
Price moves vary / PC, PBT roll over / POM, PMMA at record highs / June increases expected on rise in benzene
Styrenics May 2022
PS, EPS prices on upward trend / ABS out of steam / Extremely high prices an issue / EPS only one with good demand / Minor price changes seen in June
Polypropylene May 2022
Notations crumble across the board / C3 producers drown in material / Converters order the bare minimum / End-users brace for the outcome
Polyethylene May 2022
Market still fairly well-balanced / Declining demand is clearly evident / Additional imports likely to put prices under pressure
Base petrochemicals, aromatics and feedstocks
May/June 2022
PVC May 2022
Prices ease for first time in two years / Declines follow fall in C2 cost / Converters eye lower prices in June / End of high-price phase or just a dip?

Note on Russian polymer prices
Due to Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, KI Group has suspended all business relations with companies in Russia and Belarus until further notice.

This also affects the collaboration with our Russian cooperation partner. Therefore, we are currently not reporting on Russian polymer prices.

New categories for petrochemicals

The important role petrochemical feedstocks and other starting materials play in price developments for polymers is becoming increasingly evident. To reflect this, PIE is now tracking and publishing both contract and monthly average spot prices for the most important petrochemicals. In addition, we will analyse the volatility of spot prices as well as the level of supply and demand.

Separate tables for Feedstocks (ethylene, propylene, styrene, paraxylene) and Base Chemicals / Aromatics (oil, naphtha, benzene) will bring market developments into the spotlight.
