Recent Polymer Price Reports
Standard recyclate June 2021
High purchase costs and strong demand fuel new record highs / Upward momentum clearly weakens in July / Plateau emerging
Standard thermoplastics trend June 2021
Surge of massive price rises loses momentum / Styrenics already moving downwards / Initial signs of improved supply situation with PE and PP / PVC, EVA and EPS still short
China engineering thermoplastics May 2021
Prices mixed as availibility varies / POM increases significantly, PBT plummets / June expected to see declines mostly
North America May 2021
Notations race from one high to the next / Product shortages everywhere / Numerous forces majeures still in place / Benzene price gives reason for hope / Only PS situation likely to improve in June
China standard thermoplastics May 2021
Most prices come down in overall well-supplied market / Several PE units start production / June seen sideways to lower / Only PET expected to move up
Composites/GRP May 2021
Resins still upwardly mobile / High prices curb demand sharply / Converters order bare minimum / Some glass fibre products see steep hikes
Engineering thermoplastics May 2021
Prices generally continue to rise irrespective of the drop in feedstock costs / Occasional signs of a plateau / High prices and weakness in automotive industry slow down business
Russia May 2021
Plateauing predominates / Notations falling for the first time / Supply bottleneck driving PVC further up / Overall demand average / Supply situation with thin imports in most cases
Polyethylene May 2021
Notations continue to rise / Rate of increase slows down considerably due to high price level and falling demand / Price plateau likely
Polypropylene May 2021
Tight market drives notations even higher / Producers with exaggerated hike plans / New record prices dampen demand
Styrenics May 2021
Prices at historic highs / Serious bottlenecks for ABS and EPS / Massive decrease of SM contract in June still likely to end bull market
PVC May 2021
Prices climb for the 12th straight month / Supply bottlenecks still dominate market / Shortages in additive components / Converters seek price relief
PET May 2021
Price increases coming to an end / Record rates already trimmed / Production situation improves / Demand remains slack due to weather / Across-the-board reductions seem possible in June
Base petrochemicals, aromatics and feedstocks
May/June 2021
Polyurethane feedstocks May 2021
Most prices still rising / TDI upswing may have peaked / Polyols extremely tight / US orders continue to drain supply / Building applications boom, automotive weakens
Engineering recyclate May 2021
Further massive increases dominate the picture / Base material seldom available / Strong demand from all areas / Converters becoming increasingly thin-skinned

New categories for petrochemicals

The important role petrochemical feedstocks and other starting materials play in price developments for polymers is becoming increasingly evident. To reflect this, PIE is now tracking and publishing both contract and monthly average spot prices for the most important petrochemicals. In addition, we will analyse the volatility of spot prices as well as the level of supply and demand.

Separate tables for Feedstocks (ethylene, propylene, styrene, paraxylene) and Base Chemicals / Aromatics (oil, naphtha, benzene) will bring market developments into the spotlight.
